Take a Deep Breath: You’ve Come Further Than You Think

Writer: Bilquis AliBilquis Ali

Hey Boo Hey,

Some days, you just need to sit back, inhale some fresh air, and remind yourself that it’s okay to pause. I had to tell myself this today.

These past few months, I’ve been grinding so hard that some days, I’ve wanted to throw in the towel.

It’s not just one area—it’s everything. Work can feel overwhelming, events happen, running my business causes sleepless nights, and even though my family isn’t a problem, being a single parent brings its own challenges.

Some days, I just want to ball up under the covers and hide. Goodness, I just need a break, is what I tell myself.

Then, something shifts. I think about others who are going through their own struggles. I think about how far I’ve come.

Here’s what I’ve learned: When you look for instant gratification, you’ll quickly feel the sting of it not coming.

For me, this journey has been long and often lonely.

Can you imagine believing in something so deeply that it consumes your thoughts, only for nothing to go as planned?

You show up every day, praying, Today will be the day. You push through, only to find that tomorrow isn’t the day either.

I know this feeling because most of us, in one way or another, have been there:

  • The DON working tirelessly to turn their facility around.

  • The single parent juggling everything, living in survival mode.

  • The entrepreneur burning the midnight oil, falling behind on bills, barely hanging on.

But here’s what I want you to do right now:

Pause. Take a deep breath.

Think about everything you’ve accomplished.

Some of those losses you’ve felt, they were blessings in disguise. Every detour, every “failure,” has built resilience, strength, and character.

You may not be where you want to be yet, but you’re further than where you were. And that, my friend, is worth celebrating.

So, when the weight feels unbearable, remind yourself: This is just a season.

Keep going, keep believing, and know that every step forward—no matter how small—is progress.

You’re not alone in this. We’re all fighting battles, but we’re also building something beautiful.

Take it one breath, one step, and one day at a time. You’ve got this. 💖
