Be Kind: You Never Know What Someone Is Facing

Today, as I was moving my office, I parked in a spot that I was told I could use.

While I was sitting in my car, I noticed someone taking a picture of my license plate.

Curious and a bit taken aback, I opened my car door and asked, “Why are you taking a picture of my license plate?”

To my surprise, she rudely responded that I couldn’t park there and that she paid for that space.

I explained that I had just moved here, thinking this would clarify the situation. She then said, “Oh, I don’t mean to be mean, but this is my parking spot.”

In that moment, I felt a rush of emotions.

If this had happened a few years ago, I can honestly say I might have reacted very differently.

I’ve come a long way in managing my responses to confrontations, but what truly bothered me was the lack of consideration in her approach.

As someone who works with a lot of mental health patients, I see daily the struggles people face just to survive in this world.

The audacity of someone walking up to me, completely unaware of what I might be dealing with, is mind-boggling.

So, why am I sharing this?

It’s a reminder to be mindful in our approach to others.

It takes nothing to simply say, “Hi, this is my parking spot,” instead of being rude.

A little kindness goes a long way, and we never know the battles others are fighting behind the scenes.

In a world that often feels chaotic, let’s commit to spreading kindness wherever we can.

We all have the power to make someone’s day a little brighter, and sometimes, a simple interaction can change everything.

So the next time you find yourself in a situation like mine, pause for a moment.

Consider how you might approach the person in front of you with empathy and respect.

It’s those small gestures that can create a ripple effect of positivity.

Let’s be the change we wish to see in the world—one kind interaction at a time.
