Hey boo hey!
Let’s talk about digital products. Creating products based on my experience has been one of my favorite things to do.
It’s how I solve my people’s problems—and if you know, you know! I’ve been doing this for a few years now, and while I absolutely love it, the road hasn’t always been smooth.
When I created my first planner, it was legit crickets. 🦗 I poured a small fortune into it, and let’s just say I didn’t recoup my investment. Lesson learned.
That experience pushed me to get a coach, which gave me access to resources that changed everything.
Then came my first book. Publishing it cost me over $2,000. 😅 Now? I’ve mastered self-publishing, and I do it all myself—for a fraction of the cost.
I even hired someone to help with summaries. That taught me another key lesson: outsourcing what I couldn’t do myself saved me time and stress.
These days, I’ve streamlined my process. Instead of focusing solely on hard copies, I create a mix of:✅ Hardcopies✅ eBooks✅ Printables✅ Planners
✅ Courses and more
The beauty of digital products is the flexibility. My end goal is to work from anywhere in the world—whether I’m sipping chai in Morocco or exploring Bali. Heavy on the Bali LOL
But for now, I balance it all: managing my staffing agency, working my 9-5, and continuing to educate and inspire nurses through my digital products.
How to Start Your Digital Product Journey
If you’re looking to step into the digital world, here’s where to start:
1️⃣ Find a Problem You’ve Solved
Think about what people always come to you for. What questions do they ask? What solutions have you already figured out? For me, it was organizing my chaotic days as a nurse leader, which inspired my planners and courses.
2️⃣ Start Simple
Your first product doesn’t need to be complicated. It could be an eBook, a printable checklist, or even a small course. Trust me, starting small is better than trying to do it all at once.
3️⃣ Leverage Tools and Resources
I use Canva for designs, ChatGPT to format and proofread, and platforms like Etsy for printables and hardcopies. Over time, I’ve built a team of graphic designers and editors to help me scale—but when I started, it was just me and my laptop.
4️⃣ Self-Publishing Saves Money
Self-publishing has been a game-changer. No more $2,000 publishing fees! With platforms like Amazon KDP, you can create your books with minimal upfront costs.
5️⃣ Mix It Up
Offer a mix of products to appeal to different audiences. Some people want hardcopies, while others prefer digital downloads. Cover your bases!
Lessons Learned Along the Way
Don’t let early failures stop you. My first planner didn’t sell, but it pushed me to learn and grow.
Investing in a coach was worth every penny—I gained access to resources that helped me level up.
Start small and build from there. Not every product needs to be perfect right out the gate.
What’s Next for Me?
My ultimate goal is to fully replace my 9-5 income so I can focus on my digital products full-time. But until then, I’m balancing it all and continuing to grow.
The struggle is real, but so is the progress!
